Divorce is a painful and often uncertain process. There are several ways to handle your divorce: you can choose to mediate; you can choose the collaborative approach, or you can choose to litigate. Charmoy & Charmoy's knowledge and experience allows us to represent you no matter which avenue you choose.
Charmoy & Charmoy can help you with all aspects of your divorce, particularly:
Child Custody and Visitation
Child Support
Alimony
Property Distribution, including disposition of the marital residence
Retirement Distribution
Mediation
As a mediator, Attorney Sheila S. Charmoy's knowledge can assist you and your spouse in resolving all of the foregoing aspects of your divorce. The mediation process works particularly well for people trying to amicably dissolve their marriage without formal legal representation. If you and your spouse believe you can negotiate a separation agreement on your own, with guidance from an experienced lawyer, than mediation is for you.
Collaborative Law
Sheila S. Charmoy is a member of the Collaborative Divorce Attorneys of Fairfield County. A divorce through collaborative law provides for more attorney involvement than mediation, because the parties have formal legal representation. This process has the same goal, however, of reaching an amicable settlement between you and your spouse. You and your attorney strive to settle the above aspects of the divorce through settlement negotiations. Both parties and their lawyers have an incentive to reach an agreement because, should the collaborative process fail, both lawyers must withdraw from the case and the parties must obtain new lawyers to litigate their case.
Litigation
We at Charmoy & Charmoy understand that sometimes spouses are unable to agree on one or more aspects of their divorce through mediation and/or collaboration and the court room becomes the only place to try and resolve their differences. We are effective litigators well versed in all aspects of the trial process, and we advocate strongly for our clients. As a small firm, we strive to be readily available to you through this difficult process, staying only a phone call or email away. Our goal is to ensure that you never feel as though you have been lost in a big firm, and we strive to hold your hand through this difficult process.
